Why Stead
A browser extension helps Claude inside web pages. Stead lets Claude work across your whole computer, and keeps working when you walk away.
Your desktop apps, not just the browser
Word, Excel, File Explorer, Settings, file dialogs and right-click menus. Claude uses them by their buttons and menus and reads your document back to check its own edits.
An extension stays inside ChromeYour files, read
"Look at my essay." "What does this PDF say?" Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF files on your computer are read as text, so Claude can use them.
An extension sees web pages, not your foldersText it from your phone
"What's due this week?" "Send me the PDF my teacher emailed." Your text becomes a job on your computer, with your logins and files, and the answer comes back as a text.
An extension needs you at the computerIt works while you're away
Reminders with a day-before alert, "every weekday at 7, check my school email," "tell me when this is back in stock." If the computer was off, it catches up when it's back.
A memory you can read
Your details for forms, your preferences, the people in your life, kept as plain notes. Read, edit or delete any line. Passwords and card numbers are refused, never saved.
It never makes the same mistake twice
When it gets something wrong for you, it fixes it and saves a lesson it reads before every task. Your own rules ("from now on…") work the same way.
Clicks that don't miss
Forms hide their real checkboxes behind styled fakes. On our test form of tricky controls, plain browser automation gets 3 of 5. Stead gets 5 of 5.
One-call tools
Print any file with no dialogs, save a page as a PDF, find your files, tidy Downloads (undoable), bulk-clean Gmail and Outlook. When a job repeats, Claude writes a new tool for it.
Works in ChatGPT too
Claude Code, the Claude desktop app, and ChatGPT's desktop app and Codex. Switch AIs and keep the same hands and memory.
An extension works with one AIYour everyday browser stays yours
Stead uses its own Chrome window with its own logins. Your normal tabs, history and accounts are never touched.
Safety checked in code, not just promised
Paying, sending as you, deleting, and submitting official forms need your yes, in a pop-up Claude can't answer for you. It never types your passwords.
The honest version: if you only need help inside web pages, a browser extension is great. Use Stead when the job touches your files, your apps, your phone, or needs to happen while you're gone.
